Sustainability & Our Climate Action Plan
Leading the Way for a Greener Future
At Watton at Stone Primary and Nursery School, we recognise that we have a duty to reduce our environmental footprint and to prepare our children for a changing world. We are proud to share that we have already made significant progress in implementing our Climate Action Plan (CAP), moving well beyond the initial drafting stages to deliver real change for our school community.
Why Sustainability Matters to Us
Climate change is a global challenge with local impact, affecting how our children learn, play, and grow. Our ongoing work ensures that we:
-
Empower our Children: Provide our children with the agency, skills, and knowledge to be active participants in a sustainable future.
-
Build Resilience: Ensure our school buildings and beautiful grounds are prepared for extreme weather, protecting our children’s learning environment.
-
Lead by Example: As a central part of the Watton at Stone community, we are committed to reducing energy waste and promoting local biodiversity.
Our Progress: The Four Pillars
Our Climate Action Plan is an evolving strategy overseen by our Sustainability Team. We have already taken significant steps across these four key areas:
-
Decarbonisation & Energy: We have audited our energy usage and implemented measures to reduce our carbon emissions.
-
Adaptation & Resilience: We have made improvements to our school grounds to better manage heatwaves and rainfall, ensuring the children have comfortable, shaded spaces for outdoor play and learning.
-
Biodiversity: Our outdoor spaces support local wildlife, providing every child with the opportunity to engage directly with nature and conservation.
-
Climate Education: Sustainability is no longer just a 'topic'; we are building in opportunities for the children to be further educated about climate change ans sustainability ensuring our children understand their role in protecting the planet.
Continuous Improvement
While we have already actioned a great deal of our plan, we remain committed to further progress. We regularly review our data and look for new ways to make Watton at Stone even more sustainable.
Current Status: Implementation & Review Phase.
